There are things we tell ourselves
to keep at bay, keep up on the shelf,
the nagging fear that we’re not the hero in the tale.
Instead we fight. We build a wall.
We’re rather short though we think we’re tall.
When they cry for help we’re no help at all, we just fail.

So many seasons we’ve weathered
